Celiac Disease or Gluten Sensitivity With ADHD

Celiac Disease or Gluten Sensitivity With ADHD ADHD Symptoms Print Celiac Disease or Gluten Sensitivity With ADHD By Jane Anderson facebook twitter Jane Anderson is a medical journalist and an expert in celiac disease, gluten sensitivity, and the gluten-free diet. Learn about our editorial policy Jane Anderson Medically reviewed by Medically reviewed by Emmy Ludwig, MD on May 09, 2016 Emmy Ludwig, MD, is board-certified in gastroenterology and hepatology. She practices at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Learn about our Medical Review Board Emmy Ludwig, MD Updated on February 03, 2020 ADHD Overview Symptoms Causes Diagnosis Treatment Living With In Children lolaira / Getty Images Parents have said for years that diet appears to play a role in their childrens symptoms of ADHD, and many have removed food dyes and additives, along with sugar, from their childrens plates in an effort to manage the condition. However, recent research is pointing to a new potential culprit for ADHD symptoms: gluten. When you have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), you often behave impulsively and are easily distracted, and you probably have difficulty concentrating and focusing on important tasks. These problems can take a toll on everyday life â€" if youre a child with ADHD, your grades probably suffer, and if youre an adult, you may find it difficult to perform well at work or sustain a healthy relationship. Up to 5 percent of preschoolers and school-age children suffer from ADHD. For many of them, symptoms will continue into adulthood. Its not clear exactly what causes ADHD; researchers believe it may involve a chemical imbalance in the brain or possibly even physical differences in brain structure. It is clear that it runs in families: If you have a close relative with ADHD, your chances of developing it yourself are up to five times greater than the regular population. Celiac Disease and ADHD Linked in Studies The evidence for an association between ADHD and celiac disease is fairly strong: children and adults with the undiagnosed celiac disease do seem to have a higher risk of ADHD than the general population. In one study, researchers tested 67 people with ADHD for celiac disease. Study participants ranged in age from 7 to 42. A total of 15 percent tested positive for celiac disease. Thats far higher than the incidence of celiac in the general population, which is about 1 percent. Once they started on a gluten-free diet, the patients or their parents reported significant improvements in their behavior and functioning, and these improvements were backed up by ratings on a checklist physicians use to monitor the severity of ADHD symptoms. Another study investigated the incidence of ADHD symptoms in people newly diagnosed with celiac disease. It looked at 132 participants, ranging from toddlers to adults, and reported that ADHD symptomatology is markedly overrepresented among untreated celiac disease patients. Again, a gluten-free diet improved symptoms quickly and substantiallyâ€"six months after starting the diet, most people had vastly improved ADHD symptoms. Not all studies have found a link between celiac and ADHD. A 2013 study from Turkey, for example, found similar rates of celiac disease in children ages 5 to 15 with ADHD, and in control subjects. Evidence Less Clear for ADHD and Gluten Sensitivity Not everyone who has a problem with gluten has celiac diseaseâ€"recent research has identified markers for non-celiac gluten sensitivity, a poorly understood condition that seems to involve a reaction to gluten but not the intestinal damage that characterizes the celiac disease. Gluten sensitivity may affect up to 8 percent of the population by some estimates. For people with gluten sensitivity, studies show its possible that gluten plays a role in ADHD symptoms, but its less clear how large a role it plays. In one large study, researchers looked at the effects of the gluten-free, casein-free (GFCF) diet on people with various autism spectrum disorders. They reported a positive effect on ADHD symptoms but noted that they couldnt say for certain that it came from the GFCF diet. They also couldnt say if the effect might have stemmed from removing gluten or from removing casein from the participants diets. Anecdotally, parents of children with ADHD have reported improvements in behavior (some quite significant) when they placed their children on special diets, including a gluten-free diet. However, its difficult to correlate those improvements with the dietary changes. Currently, theres no accepted test to detect gluten sensitivity; the only way to know if you have it is if your symptoms (which usually involve digestive problems but also can involve neurological issues such as headaches and brain fog) clear up when you go gluten-free. The Bottom Line If you suspect gluten may be contributing to your or your childs ADHD symptoms, what should you do? First, you should consider testing for celiac disease, especially if you or your child shows other celiac-related symptoms. Remember, not all symptoms involve your digestive system; celiac symptoms in children may involve something more subtle, such as short stature or failure to thrive. In most cases, your physician will use a blood test to screen for celiac disease, followed by endoscopy if the blood test is positive. If the tests are negative for celiac disease (or if you decide not to pursue testing), you may want to discuss dropping gluten from your diet or your childs diet for a month or so to see if symptoms improve. To do this test properly, youll need to avoid gluten completely, not just cut back on it. If the symptoms are influenced by gluten ingestion, you should notice a change within that month.

My interest sparked at a young age when I started reading books at school, and decided to take it upon myself to write my own stories. I’d spend hours at home creating different short stories and hoped that someday I’d get them published, which of course didn’t happen, but it made me realize that writing was something I really appreciate. I loved the freedom of it and being able to write down exactly what was on my mind, so that I’d never forget a certain thought, idea, or story in my head that I wanted to remember. The Pardoners Tale Deception And Foolishness Essays -

The Pardoner's Tale: Deception And Foolishness Barrett Great Books 1 Dr. Carcache 11 December 2000 The Pardoner's Tale: Deception and Foolishness There are several types of foolishness being described in the Pardoner's Tale itself. He describes gluttony in general, then specifically wine. He talks of gambling, taking bets and the like, and of swearing. The beginning of his tale describes three fools who go foolishly seeking death, then find it in a large amount of gold. Deception is another topic addressed by the Pardoner. He comes right out and says he is a con artist, and that he is out to take people's money. In his tale, deception by the rioters leads to the death of all three. These are good points, but there is another deception the Pardoner plays, and gets caught. His tale is a direct chastisement of the host, Harry Bailey, who is not pleased by this. As a whole, Chaucer effectively uses this character of the Pardoner to point out some of the more foolish and deceptive aspects of other characters in the tales as well. In the beginning, the narrator describes the Pardoner in some quite undesirable terms. The Pardoner represents the ugly truth. The Knight is grand, the Wife is pretty, but the Pardoner is downright ugly. He is also the only pilgrim to acknowledge his shortcomings. He knows he is a con artist and a liar, and in his tale's prologue he freely admits this in both words and actions. The Pardoner then proceeds with the tale itself, which is a deception as well. In his tale he describes gluttony in detail and defines it as not just overeating, but the intense pleasure of doing so. He also denounces wine with graphic examples of drunkenness. He discusses the negative merits of swearing and cursing. Then, he closes the tale itself with a condemnation of gambling. There are several things going on here. The first, and most obvious hypocrisy is before telling this tale, the Pardoner insisted on stopping at an inn for food and beer. He is also a participant in a bet: he who tells the best story wins. However, there is another level. This tale is a retaliation against the host, who just before asking the Pardoner to speak had been cursing and talking about using beer as medicine to mend his broken heart. It can be suspected that the host is drunk, as well. Several things from the tale upset the host. He is the owner of a tavern, encouraging food and drink. He himself likes to partake of these things. He also swears often, and from the General Prologue, we know the host was the one to propose the storytelling game in the first place. So, at the end of the Pardoner's Tale, when the Pardoner suggests, ?our Host shall begin, for he's the man enveloped most by sin (1585.457-458), it is in direct response to the insult the host made at the beginning of the Pardoner's tale. This nearly starts a physical fight, but the Knight steps in to stop any further confrontation. The Pardoner's tale may have been aimed at the host, but it also describes much of the rest of the pilgrimage. After all, the group met at a tavern, they agreed to this storytelling game or bet, and some of them have been drunk for much of the trip thus far. Indeed, the sins listed in the tale do seem to apply to most of the characters. In this way, he seems to be telling the truth in some way in regards to everyone. The Prioress and Monk like their food, the Miller likes his ale, the Wife of Bath likes her money, and so on. What sets him aside is he does admit this himself. He admits in his Prologue to being a con artist and always willing to have a drink. The Pardoner is possibly the epitome of the ?ugly truth? about people. Truth is sexless and has some charming characteristics, but when used as a reflection of one's self, most people do not like what they see. The Pardoner offers his listeners a chance to redeem themselves. Not through his relics, but by acknowledging these undesirable aspects in their own

How to Pass a College Class

How to Pass a College Class Whether youre about to start college, about to restart college, or just want to up your game a bit, its important to get back to the basics: doing well in your classes is critical for your success. And while knowing how to pass a college class seems so simple at first, being able to follow through over the course of a semester can often become challenging. In essence, however, there are several key things all college students needs to know and do if they want to pass their classes. Attend Class Go to class! It can be all too easy to not go to class regularly, especially if your professor doesnt take attendance. And it can be all too easy to sleep in or attend other events instead. Over time, however, low attendance can turn into a major problem. Youll miss discussing and learning about important material, of course, but youll also miss other key elements: the moment your professor mentions that something is going to be on an upcoming exam, the moment the light bulb finally goes off in your own brain because of something another student said, the moment you got the idea for your final paper. Engage with the Material Theres more to a class than just the few hours it meets each week, though. Do the assigned reading. Watch the assigned films. Think about what youre learning and how it can apply to all kinds of things outside of the classroom. How is what youre learning important in the bigger picture of your life? Of the universe? Talk to Your Peers Engage with the students. Your classmates can be one of the best resources for your learning experience. Whether youre in a study group or just connect with one student in particular, engaging with your fellow students can deepen your understanding of the course material and help shift your perspective. Talk to Your Professor Engage with the professor. Office hours are like a gift your professor gives you each semester. Use them! Whether you have a question about what was covered in class, want feedback on a paper or project youre working on, or just want to talk to your professor about something kinda-sorta-maybe related to the class, office hours are the place to do it. Additionally, if your professor sees youve been giving it your all at the end of the semester, he or she might be more inclined to give you the benefit of the doubt if youre grade is on the border. Manage Your Time Plan in advance for papers and tests. Time management in college is not easy at all. And managing multiple projects, assignments, and deadlines can be one of the biggest challenges you face. Can you pull an all-nighter? Probably. But you might get sick, your computer might crash, you might not finish in time, and you definitely wont turn in your best work. Plan in advance for papers and exams so that you can work on them slowly, deliberately, and well. Keep Up With Your Work Stay on top of your assignments as often as possible. Staying on top of your reading and other assignments like language lab hours is important, too. Will it always be possible? Probably not. But staying on top of your academic to-do list is a major factor in making sure that youre understanding the material and, consequently, that youll likely pass the class. Remember to Relax Relax from time to time. Even though your brain is technically an organ, it does operate like a muscle in many ways: if you keep doing the same motions over and over, youre likely to sabotage your own chances for success. You cant study all the time, and even if you could, your efforts would quickly become ineffective. Take a break. Go for a walk. Relax for a few minutes. Take an afternoon or even an entire day off. Let yourself relax and enjoy your college life so that you have the mental energy you need for your academic obligations and so that you can have some fun along the way, too. Set Goals Set goals about what you want to learn and experience. Passing a class is more than just getting a certain grade. What do you want to learn? What do you want to experience? What skills do you want to gain? Getting a C in your everyone-else-failed, nearly-impossible-to-pass statistics class, for example, might feel like more of a victory than the A you earned with barely any effort in your creative writing course. While grades are important, they arent the be-all, end-all of your college experience. You need to pass your classes, of course, but you also need to be mindful of what you want to learn and experience along the way.

The students may already have varying levels of English-speaking ability as well- from not speaking any English to being fairly proficient (but wanting to refine even further). What skills do ESL teachers need?ESL teachers often need to have an extra level of flexibility and people skills bec ause they’re working with a diverse range of people who may have an array of different needs.Cultural Sensitivity:Â  This is a key quality for an ESL teacher to have. The job inherently requires you to work with people from different backgrounds or nationalities to help them build their English speaking, listening, and writing skills.Language Fluency:Â  This is not always required, but can be very helpful, as it can open up even more job opportunities. Some English language teaching programs do total immersion (where the teacher and students only speak English), but if you are multilingual it can lead to more and different opportunities (like teaching abroad).Teaching Skills:Â  Like any educator, the ESL teacher needs to be able to take complicated concepts and teach them to students in an appropriate and understandable way.Flexibility:Â  This is a must-have skill for any teacher, but is even more essential for an ESL teacher. Students may have a range of learning styles and needs, so finding ways to connect those dots may require a bit of teaching dexterity.Creativity:Â  ESL teachers are teaching skills that have very real practicality in everyday life, so finding ways to work in real world lessons and activities with more abstract concepts like grammar and speaking can help students.Organizational Skills:Â  The ESL classroom is like any other, in that a chaotic atmosphere doesn’t help anyone learn. The teacher should be able to get a handle on the classroom and have set lesson plans and benchmarks in order to keep things running smoothly.Communication Skills:Â  You’ll be teaching communication, so you’ll need to be highly proficient at it yourself. What do you need to become an ESL teacher?ESL teachers usually need a bachelor’s degree at minimum, preferably in an educational field. However, in some cases a bachelor’s degree and English language expertise may be sufficient. Some states require ESL teachers to be licensed as other teachers are licensed, so be sure to check your state’s requirements. How much do ESL teachers make?According to PayScale, ESL teachers make a median salary of $40,632, though this can vary depending on where you’re teaching, what you’re teaching, and whether it’s in the public sector or private sector. What’s the outlook for ESL teachers? The outlook is bright! With more and more people seeking to come to the United States, there will be a consistently growing pool of potential students and programs that cater to them. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that adult literacy and language teachers (a group which includes ESL teachers) will grow by about 7% by 2026, which is faster than average for all careers. If you’re thinking about teaching, and you’re especially interested in working with students on English language skills and literacy, working in the ESL field can be a great specialty. And with people of s o many cultures coming together with a common goal, you’re likely to learn as much from your students as you teach them- a winning situation all around. Good luck!

Co-creating New Social Business Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Co-creating New Social Business - Case Study Example In some countries, legal constraints have been embedded in their laws where companies are held responsible for actions contravening set rules and regulations on social responsibility and sustainability (Brugmann & Prahalad, 2007). Â  In adherence to the above, one of the striking strategies employed by companies is the conceptual analysis. In the conceptual analysis, companies are required to provide quality value based services and sustainability approaches to ecological sense as well as business sense. Provision of value-based services entail responding to customers’ expectations and satisfying their needs. However, this does not necessarily mean companies have to conform to customers’ thoughts, wishes, and perception. Value-based organizations are more attractive to customers and employees are normally motivated (Brugmann & Prahalad, 2007). Â  On the other hand, sustainability approach is in very many dimensions. Some of these dimensions are ethical, economic, nature philosophical, and social. Ethical dimension dictates the moral relationship that is used to define the future ways of doing business and social dimension are geared towards social justice within the society. As for nature philosophical and economic dimensions, the vulnerability of nature is presumed by limiting its degree of interference for future generations while in the economic sense theories and practices are used to create awareness on sustainable development.

The Glass Menagerie Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

The Glass Menagerie - Essay Example She would rattle off the numerous names of her suitors and she would recount their consequent fame and fortune after some years. However, she would always refer to her husband with a note of regret and sadness. Amanda also failed to accept the disability of her daughter, Laura, who is a cripple, so she refused to face the reality that Laura would naturally have fewer suitors due to this disability. Instead, she would say that there must be a typhoon on a certain day since Laura has no gentleman callers. Amanda also exercises considerable control over her children. For instance, Amanda demands that Tom, her son should join them during meals. One of her dreams is that Laura gets to marry a fine gentleman. She also wants Laura to study the typewriter and practice the shorthand so that the gentlemen callers will perceive that she is well-bred. Laura has a low self-esteem as shown by her deep sensitivity to the negative perceptions of other people. She also seems to have an unstable mental condition. Instead of braving the negative perceptions of her classmates at the Business College, she instead chose to stay at home and be comforted by the presence of her glass collection. Hence, she settled for a less daunting feat: playing with beautiful glass figurines everyday.

Relationship between Marketing Mix and Consumer Behaviour

Relationship between Marketing Mix and Consumer Behaviour The primary idea of a marketing mix was introduced by Neil Borden in 1953 while describing the recipe that was needed to make a successful marketing campaign. The idea was then given the 4 Ps in 1960 by E. Jerome McCarthy. Marketing Mix is a combination of elements used in the sale of a specific product. The marketing elements that affect a products performance are seen in four distinct functions, also called the Four Ps of marketing. They include product, price, place (of distribution), and promotion. All these functions are considered in the process of planning a marketing strategy. Any one may be enhanced, deducted, or changed to some degree, depending on the market scenario, in order to create a strategy necessary to sell a product. A brief description of each of the aspects of the marketing mix is explained below. Product The physical product/service offered to the consumer. Product decisions include aspects such as function, appearance, aesthetics, post sale service, product warranty, etc. Promotion Promotion decisions are those related to telling or communicating to the target customer what the product has to offer. The duty involves luring a customer in for the sale and then finally completing the required sale. Promotions teams have a responsibility to selling to a new customer and increase the use of the product to encourage more sales. Since these costs often over shoot the products price, a break even analysis must be conducted when making promotion decisions. The promotions team decides to which kind of customers the product needs to be sold. This is also significant in the planning of the product cost and the type of promotion that would go into the promotion of the products. Promotion include advertising, public relations, media types, etc. Place This deals with the location or the place where the product is expected to be sold. The product has to reach the consumers through a series of distributors and retailers. It is associated with the distribution channels which all serve as the means for getting the product to the customers who pick it off a shelf or pay for it otherwise. The distribution system performs all the transactional, logistical, and facilitating functions between middle men and retailer which brings them the best deals and the most effective profit. Distribution decisions include market coverage, channel member selection, logistics, and levels of service. Price Pricing decisions should take into account to account for profit margins and competitors. Keeping up with competitor pricing and treatment of the product in the market brings in a great deal of strategy to the products life cycle. Pricing includes along with the marked list price, the discounts, financing, and more options such as leasing. The following section will deal with describing the effect of the various aspects and sections of the Marketing Mix with association with RD(Research and Development), Brand Portfolio, Sales force and Market Research. Link between Marketing Mix and Consumer Behaviour The psychological processes that a consumer goes through to recognize his needs and finding ways to fill the gaps formed by these needs, making decisions about a purchase (eg., whether or not to pay for a product and, if they are then, which brand do they want to buy and where), process information, planning and implementation of these plans (eg., by engaging in comparison or window shopping or actually paying for a product). It is often necessary to understand the customer and his/her regional and cultural influences. Chances of an Indian or a Chinese bargaining at a retail store are higher than that of an American customer. This affects the pricing and the promotion done for the product. Often, the advertisements and the promotion strategy are re-used in different parts of the world on account of the type of customer. This make a difference on spends and proper consumer behaviour can often bring the difference between a successful and an unsuccessful campaign. Decision making by customers include the availability of the product in the region and information that helps him/her make the required decision pertaining to the purchase of the product. Let us use a few examples to explain the link between the marketing mix and consumer behaviour. The denim and jeans industry which include some internationally recognised brands including Levis, Lee and Pepe understand that within their target range, we include the young crowd. Commonly people up to 30 years of age. They, therefore make sure that the campaigns and marketing include a specific intention to pull these customers in. The ads therefore include several young people in harsh surroundings. KFC and McDonalds have learnt that people tend to eat more in bright coloured surroundings. Therefore, all their outlets usually have bright colours across the walls. A study showed that the These are only very simple examples of consumer behaviour. Understanding the performance or the process of aligning the 4 Ps as per our customers needs is huge in scope and profitable in practice. Link between Marketing Mix and Market Research Market Research is the process of gathering data or info in order to better understand the aspects which would affect the performance of a product on the market. We have to understand if a particular move or step is worth the risk. Incorrect or inadequate market research often leads to poor performance due a poor understanding. Most companies are founded on the principle of profitability. Goods or services they provide should aim to be something that the customer needs and the company can benefit from. That is where market research plays it hand at making a decision. Doing that research accurately will determine if your business will flourish or fall flat on its face. The research conducted around a single product includes analysis of the customer during the purchase phase, the reaction to a specific advertisement, the positioning of the product on the shelves of the stores they appear in, the comfort of the customer with the product etc. In a business strategic sense, they are used to collate Market Information (data about competitors and the supply and demand situation), Segmentation (understanding what kinds of customers appeal to what kind of customer reacts to a specific form of promotion based on common criteria), Market Trends (the fluctuation of the market), Risk Analysis, Competitor Analysis etc. Each and everyone of these activities brings the product manufacturer/service provider with the info he/she needs to process and successfully sell the product. This changes the manner in which the product is sold. The price, the positioning, the promotion and the product itself depends on this research. Link between Marketing Mix and RD Research and Development in a company often implies the need or the drive to improve the product and allow for a better replacement to make its way into the market. The idea behind research and development is to maximise the benefits that the consumer gets out of the product. The idea behind research and development is to improve the products and possibly charge a premium on the improved product which will increase profitability and allow the company to re-invest in research for a better product or a better variant of the same. The benefits from research are manifold. They include better products and hence a more loyal customer and possibly new ones. A company which thrives on research like a Pharmaceutical company is normally not considered the best kind of investment for a player in the stock market. This is because of unusual and over the top spending patterns for research which doesnt necessarily return the investment made. Research and development is also to keep one step ahead of the competitor. To remain at or reach to the top of the table, a company must constantly come out with a product thats just better than the competitors product. Pricing is always a major aspect to consider while working the specifics in research. The price of a product depends on the amount of research that goes into its development. The premium charged on a product comes from patents that protect it against duplication. Patents however, are only offered for a temporary period. Post that, the product is open to duplication. In this case, the price drops to a minimum, usually to push for maximum sales and to allow a return from plain sales. In promotion , the results of research are often touted in the ads about the same. This comes from Surf Excel and Bournvita ads which talk about extra acting chemicals and extra nutrients respectively to make it a better choice than competitor products. Link between Marketing Mix and Sales Force The sales team that drives the amount of revenue coming into the company involves the final point of contact with the customer. This is the point where all the promotions and pricing bring the customer to the final decision making stage. The best salesman is who gets the sale done and the papers signed. It is assumed at times that a large sales force implies the sale of more products. This is not true. A sales force means training. The training involves teaching your sales force selling the product and the nuances associated to the product. This leads to an automatic rise in the spends of the company and very easily reflects on the prices of the products. The size of a sales force depends on the reach of the product in terms of distribution. The type of product also as a major say in the strength of the sales force. Pharmaceuticals have lesser sales force as they cover doctors in mostly urban and sub-urban areas. FMCG sends their sales force all across the country and the world to maximise sales. Link between Marketing Mix and Brand Portfolio The brand portfolio is a system used to categorise the products into high-earners, dead-beats and break-evens. The brand portfolio is created for both analysis of the past and application in the future. The portfolio will contain details about the product that helps the company make decisions about the products future. These include the promotional activities that the product will go through, the price at which we make it available to the customer, the positioning of the product and the condition of the products complete development. The price of a high-earning luxury item can be increased and the smaller items which lose you money will be the losers which will be either pushed back from promotion or pulled out altogether. The idea behind a brand portfolio is to keep a check or an eye on the products performances. Application of Key Learnings to Reckitt Benckiser in the liquid antiseptic division Reckitt Benckisers liquid antiseptic is the very popular Dettol. Dettol has been a strong contender in the liquid antiseptic industry. It has ruled the roost in the industry for several years and still holds solid ground. Dettol enjoyed over 80% of the market share in its antiseptic form. The soap and the liquid soap formats however, had just about 15% of the industry. The soap and liquid soap formats did not enjoy the same success that the antiseptic did. The demand for Dettol rose from about Rs. 105 billion in 1999 to Rs. 160 billion in 2009. The demand forecast graph for Dettol over the past 10 years can be seen below. Consumer Behaviour Study of Dettol A consumer behaviour study to understand the success of Dettol as an antiseptic brand was conducted to understand the reasons for the popularity of the brand. The study revealed that 85% of the respondents knew about Dettol i.e. they were aware that the product existed. 72% of the respondents used it as a preferred antiseptic. 72% also continue using Dettol because of Brand Loyalty and 56% are open to using other Dettol products. Dettol and Reckitt Benckiser have never had to worry about the competition so far. The users mostly preferred Dettol to other products. The figure below refers shows the analysis, study and the results of the research conducted. Pricing Strategies surrounding Dettol The Dettol variants have always been competitively priced with the market. The Soap variant was priced at Rs. 16/75mg and Rs.26/125mg. This was priced against the similar Savlon product which was priced at Rs.16 and Rs.24.5 respectively for the two package varieties. Both of the products however, are far higher than the alternate Medimix which was Rs.12 and Rs.17 for the two variants. At this point, a manager would wonder whether or not the right idea would be to work towards the price. Dettol can charge a minor premium on the product price because it holds a certain edge over the existing products. However, Savlon is catching on fast considering its an antiseptic which doesnt hurt as much. The manager therefore, tries to make the best of the current scenario and ensure that the competition wouldnt eat into its market share. In liquid soap, Dettol was exactly the same as the Fem variant which both sold as Rs.55/250ml. The market share of the liquid soap for Dettol is very low. A change in the price might even help the return to the market and allow Dettol to take the product ahead. The Shaving Cream division sees Dettol lying between the Old Spices Rs.37.50/70g and Rs.24.50/30g and Palmolives Rs.36/70g and Rs. 19.50/30g. Market Research and Research and Development of Dettol Reckitt Benckiser and Dettol say Good health begins with hygiene. The Dettol variants were restricted to products which represent hygiene and banked on the very reliable name of Dettol to push the hygiene factor across to the customer. Dettol was broken down into the Antibacterial Soap, Liquid Handwash, Shaving Cream and Band-Aid. The marketing team at Dettol looked into what could be done to maximise the reach of the Dettol brand and where it could be used conversely to decide what kind of variant would be required and what type of product is needed for the next step. The products all promote killing germs, freshness and absolute cleanliness and purity. Dettol has performed extensive research on the expansion plans of their major brand. The Dettol brand took the reach of Dettol to go as far as possible. The reach of Dettol moved from homes and hospitals to hotels, theatres, railways, educational institutes, saloons, school events. Trend Analysis of Dettol between 2000 and 2004 The trend analysis has shows sales numbers on a high. The numbers have constantly been increasing over the past several years. In 2000, the sales numbers were close to 48000. In 2001, the numbers went up to 55000. Uptil 2003 following this, the number remained largely stagnant and then moved to dip slightly below 54000. However, the year 2004 was a fantastic attack on the market and shot up numbers in a single year in 2004 to 63000. We can tell from the demand forecast table that the demand made for the hygiene industry products kept going up. The demand kept going up. Sales number increasing means we need to bump up the sales force. Ideally, the need for a greater sales force comes from the need for more retailers. The more the retailers, means that the reach of the product has increased and there are more people who are willing to buy and to sell. A sales force involves training. The need for greater performance is what keeps a company going. To maximise sales, they have to increase sales force. To increase sales force, they have to spend more money on the hiring, training and keeping the sales force. This automatically leads to greater spending in the event that the product might not do well, thus bringing up the costs of the product. SWOT Analysis of the Reckitt Benckiser Dettol industry Below we have a brief SWOT analysis of the industry. Strengths: High market share of antiseptic liquid Brand loyalty Most trusted Brand High quality at affordable prices Weaknesses: Poor marketing strategies for Dettol Shaving Cream Dettol Talc Burning sensation of Antiseptic liquid Opportunities: Dettol Water Purifier due to increase in epidemics Opportunity to capture the shaving cream segment Threats: Competitive Pricing Attractive Packaging of competitor products Good Advertisements by competitors

Stereotypes And Film Stereotypes - 1311 Words

Stereotypes and Films This week, in Chapter 5 The Perceptual Context, we covered stereotypes. Stereotypes typically refer to membership in social categories such as sex, race, age, or profession, that are believed to be associated with certain traits and behaviors, as noted by Neuliep (2015). Stereotypes can often stem from an individual’s own perception and form one’s cultural upbringing. The film I am covering, as it relates to stereotypes is Think Like a Man. Think Like a Man is about four women who are at their wits end with dead road relationships. When the women discover Steve Harvey’s book, Think Like a Man, they began turning their relationships around. The stereotype displayed in this scene is that African Americans think all Caucasians has excellent credit. The black guys assumed that the white guy’s black girlfriend is with him, because of his great credit status and financial privileges and the one of the white guys seemingly agreed. I think this originated from the history of most Caucasians had great finances and wealth, which in turn gave them the ability to buy more and pay for more things. I believe that the assumption begun from poor African Americans, as many saw Caucasians as privileged many years ago. I think today this stereotype is wrong, I believe all race has good and bad credit ratings. The fact that this is or was a stereotype of Caucasians this confirms that stereotyping is cultural. Indeed, cultural approach to stereotyping emphasizes that stereotypes are learned, maintained, and potentially chan ged through the language and communication a culture as stated by MaCrae et al., (1996). Essay Identity Theft - 1884 Words

Identity theft is one of the most pervasive and rapidly growing criminal activities in America. It is also one of the most devastating crimes for victims. One of the most common forms of identity theft is credit and debit card fraud. Credit card fraud not only exposes private payment information to thieves, but possibly the cardholders name, address, and social security number. A 2003 survey from the Identity Theft Resource Center found that approximately seven million people were victims of identity theft over the previous 12 months. 73% of respondents indicated that the theft of their identity involved the unauthorized use of their credit card information, while only 15% of these victims find out about the theft of their credit†¦show more content†¦As recent examples of widespread security failure at the highest corporate levels highlight the need for reliable protections that will effectively minimize consumer exposure to credit fraud. Security surveillance flags fraudulent activity only after it has occurred. A security freeze (or credit freeze), on the other hand, is a proactive tool designed to prevent fraudulent activity before it starts. The credit freeze A credit freeze provides consumers with the option to freeze or lock lender access to their credit files at the three major credit bureaus, Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. Once a credit freeze is in place, no company (aside from companies the customer already does business with) can access the frozen line of credit for any reason.
